What's important is on the inside.
Because what’s important is on the inside, at Instituto Marqués we know that some embryos, although having a good morphology, will never reach maturity. The reason is that they do not have the correct genetic material.
Today we are able to discover this, thanks to techniques such as PGD which through the genetic analysis of the embryos, allows us to transfer only those that have the correct number of chromosomes and therefore enhance the possibilities of pregnancy.
Infertility is a growing problem in developed countries and is affecting one in every five couples of reproductive age. Although it is true that in the last few years Assisted Reproduction techniques have evolved considerably, there are still many couples that after numerous attempts, still are childless because their embryos do not have the correct genetic material to be able to reach maturity.
Every day many of these couples come to Instituto Marqués after unsuccessful attempts at other centres in the world, seeking a definite treatment for their infertility problem: in fact, 80 per cent of our patients come to us as a reference centre after attempts in other centres and countries, from U.S. to Australia, U.K., France or Italy.
In these cases, the Preimplantational genetic diagnosis that we offer at Instituto Marqués, allows us to discover the potential causes of these errors and in In Vitro Fertilization treatments allows us to transfer only those embryos that have the correct number of chromosomes. This way, pregnancy rates increase and spontaneous and therapeutic miscarriage rates are reduced. This is possible thanks to our commitment to Embryo Medicine, a young science that involves doctors, embryologists, andrologists and geneticists specializing in embryo analysis, which considers each embryo as a small patient, and which strives to create healthy children.
Today Embryo Medicine opens a door to achieve pregnancy for all those infertile couples who have not become pregnant with Assisted Reproduction. In addition to genetically analysing the embryos through PGD, this new science also allows us to determine if the cause of these alterations is of male origin. These specific tests allow us to analyse the separation process of the chromosomes at the testis level (meiosis) and the chromosomic composition of the spermatozoids (FISH in spermatozoids) as well as the correct structure of the spermatic DNA (DNA Fragmentation). Through all these techniques we can know if the failures in the previous cycles are related to sperm problems that cannot be diagnosed with a simple seminogram, allowing a correct guidance of future treatments.
Instituto Marqués is pioneer in Embryo Medicine which thanks to these new tests is making more and more couples from all over the world their wish of becoming parents come true.
